‘Fully accredited’ gastronomy
Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts has been 'fully accredited' by successfully passing the examination by the Tourism Education Evaluation and Accreditation Board (TURAK). IUE Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department, which is found as complete in many topics from the subjects covered in the curriculum to the physical facilities provided to the students, became the first and only department to receive accreditation for '5 years' among undergraduate programs in this field in Turkey.
TURAK, which works to meet the expectations of tourism industry stakeholders and to ensure the quality assurance of undergraduate programs, evaluated IUE Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts meticulously for two months. IUE Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts registered the quality of its education by achieving great success as a result of the evaluation made under many titles such as teaching staff and plan, management structure, educational infrastructure, institutional support and financial resources, program learning outcomes.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Betül Öztürk, Director of IUE School of Applied Management Sciences, stated that they are proud of being accredited as a department. Asst. Prof. Dr. Öztürk said, “Our department, which aims to provide young people with the knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the food and beverage sector, once again demonstrated the quality of the education it has given. We are proud to receive the title of an undergraduate program that produces knowledge and value, thanks to our qualified work in the field of education and research. Gastronomy is a very popular field to which interest is constantly increasing around the world. We want to train a qualified workforce that can represent our country in the international arena. We currently have a large number of graduates who fit these descriptions. Our aim is to increase the education quality day by day and add new success stories to the existing success stories in our department.”
CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
Stating that as a department, they have formed an advisory board that includes representatives of chambers and non-governmental organizations, supervisors and public figures, Asst. Prof. Dr. Öztürk stated that the first meeting of the board was held recently after the accreditation. Asst. Prof. Dr. Öztürk said, “At the meeting, with the participation of Rector Murat Aşkar, we exchanged views on the needs of the business world and which strategic steps to take for the future. We want to contribute to the development of our region and our city with the joint projects we will implement and the collaborations we will make. We will share the clarified projects with the public in the coming period.” The Advisory Board meeting ended with the food presentation of the 4th grade students of the Department of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, under the supervision of IUE Chef Instructor Tolgahan Kamiloğlu.
